Watching this young, smug male assert himself gave me an insight into the way the Zionists use the youth to further their agenda.
Of course we supported Israel, but I was not raised with an intensely Zionist ideal. However, in Sydney I came to know young adult children of a friend, who were very much a part of the Jewish youth scene. My friend, the mom, had left her husband and was immersed in other spiritual practices, while still being a Jewish mother. So here were kids in a very liberal cosmopolitan world, very dogmatic about the Israeli situation. Their whole definition was thru these youth organisations, who of course indoctrinate them with the faux-historical premise for the continued occupation.
Why did I think of the mk programming? Because as I watched the young man in the audience, especially after he’d been answered, and sat there jiggling his foot, I just saw the face of unquestioned privilege, unquestioned assumptions of superiority and rightness or righteousness. Of course, every society/family indoctrinates its members to belong. But unlike, eg. madrassas, the average Jewish family does not expect indoctrination, nor is it privy to/aware of the reality. The youth group trajectory puts a cuckoo into every Jewish family’s nest, immoderate, prejudiced, counter to everything the moderate modern Jew has sought.
It will be interesting to see how a gathering of Jews against Zionism goes this weekend in Detroit .
